For Savannah, life began in Heaven. She was one of God's angels, on the side of Light against Darkness, Good versus Evil.

Where she was at, this one did not have a name. Her Heart and Soul was name enough.

After what humans would call centuries, this angel was released from Heaven, sent to live as a mortal on Earth, in a place called Georgia, the United States.

Naming herself after the city she was delivered to, Savannah searched for the meaning to this new existence.

As human, she hungered for mortal food. Through temporary jobs in small towns, Savannah was paid enough for basic necessities.

Thanks to an employer named Mister Kane, the young woman received a vintage car, a gift for the woman he considered a daughter, and she of him a father.

Due to slow business the restaurant closed, the Mom and Pop operation unable to remain open, the nearby competing national chains killing the independents.

Her employer and Savannah parted ways, one traveling to Vermont to be with his family while the other driving two hundred and forty eight miles to Atlanta.

Midway there, her car broke down. Pulling off to the side of the highway road, Savannah took the keys and got out, staying close to the vehicle, cautious.

She was safe. Or it seemed to be so. Life took a twist and turn, changing her future.

Emerging from the forest was a bloodied Malkavian, running, speaking in a voice thick with Irish brogue. He saw Savannah, moving quicker, closing distance.

Savannah panicked, heart beating. This was the Kindred spoken of in Heaven, those not of the living nor the dead. The angels were warned of such creatures.

The keys fell out of her hands, a sun catching angel keychain bouncing on the pavement and grass.

In a sing-song voice, the Malkavian named Devonshire crooned a malevolent melody, a twisted lewd lullaby.

"Little lass, little lass. All alone, 'tis a fly.
Me a spider, eight legged, spinning a web, tight.
Warm, human weak. I of hunted, chased by wolfens.
Run, he shouts. Faster, he demands. Quicker, now.
Closer is he, rending me pieces. I yet play fool.
Spider says no to wolf, no play fair. Spider mad.
Meself want valentine, heart bleeding, candy red.
Little fly, in my web..."

As if hearing and taking notes from the voices in his head, the lunatic continued, slipping into fever pitch.

"Edmund likes pretty flies and sticky webs like I.
Wolf no like us, say we bad. He no fair, no funny.
He hurt me, stab me. Lost him did I, goodbye wolf.
My little fly, will you be mine, death and decay?"

She moved back as he began the next vile verse, the angel within feeling compassion and pity for the sane human man this one used to be before the Embrace.

"Spinnerets Arachnid, silk and venom. Little Miss Muffet, three by six, eight by two."

A voice interrupted the song, the Malkavian angered by the intrusion.

The aforementioned wolf entered the clearing from the forest, a Gangrel. "Let her go."

The songester madman shook his head, wild hair spinning haphazardly. "The spider says no."

The Gangrel growled, a force to be reckoned with. "And I say yes."

The world turned dark for Savannah. The last memory of that day was of the Kindred engaging in battle, a war with only one victor as dusk turned toward dawn.

The next she woke, Savannah was in the middle of a forest clearing, on her back. It was night again, stars above appearing as diamonds upon ebony tapestry.

The world around her was in sharp focus, fascinated by how differently her eyes saw the universe. The last time she saw this clearly was when she was an...

"Angel," a voice answered, touched with guilt. "You are no longer an angel. Or human."

Savannah stiffened, sitting. The Gangrel from the Blood Hunt was near, standing. "You read my mind."

Alejandro smiled grimly, looking away. "You're my childe."

Remembering her past lessons, Savannah added a conclusion. "You're my Sire."

The unspoken question hanged in the air between them: Why?

Alejandro answered, making eye contact, unflinching this time. "After the Final Death, I was in frenzy. I killed you. And brought you back."

Narrowing her eyes, Savannah stood herself. The human death she was experiencing caused her pain. Alejandro reached out, catching her, holding her close. "It would of been humane to let you go, release your return to Heaven. There, you could be an angel again."

The question Why? again.

Savannah struggled to make distance from the one who Created her as he continued his explanations, justifying and rationalizing his choices and decisions. "I had good reason to Turn you, to make you Gangrel. Read my mind as I read yours, you will find your answers there."

Savannah did, finding no blocks and barriers. The truth startled her, jogging Savannah's memory. "You...I...me...us...them..." She recovered, speaking. "When you were a child, a human teenager before Embraced at thirty three summers, I was one of your guardian angels."

Alejandro soothed her through the mortal death pain, coaching her through the transition, speaking of their shared past. "I was a sensitive, seeing the world differently than others. I saw ghosts, knew of vampires and werewolves, I was certain of angels, those Heaven and Earth. You saved my life, remember, when it was deemed impossible for me to survive. You and other angels were there, protecting me when I needed it most. Especially when warned not to get into the car after my friends had been drinking. Where my common sense did not prevail, my guardians and ghosts did. I walked home, safe in my home and hearth. My friends died that night, their car was found smashed into another car. Not too far from here, in fact. I also met my Creator in this forest, among the woods."

Her hazes of anger and pain ebbed and flowed, along with affinity and kinship, mixed emotions and feelings. Savannah wanted to hug him back, run away, shout, scream, rejoice, all the above. This confused her, this once rational mind at disorder and chaos. "So cold, can't think straight."

Sensing this, Alejandro wrapped her into his full embrace, holding her close through the Change. "You saved me, I save you. Like your Grandsire did to me."

The Gangrel continued to explain, thinking of the past. "Stevie Ray, he was a good man. You see, all Kindred are not like Devonshire. His way is not ours."

The Embrace complete, Savannah was reborn. "Like angels, there is Light and Darkness, Good and Evil."
